(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Free weekly cultural events are planned for residents of Hackensack and nearby towns as part of “Summer in the City,” sponsored by the city of Hackensack, the Main Street Business Alliance (MSBA), and the Department of Cultural Arts. Venue locations include the Hackensack Green and Atlantic Street Park, the new outdoor performing arts space at Warren & Atlantic Streets, which was funded by MSBA.
Movies under the Stars and Shakespeare in the Park will be held in Atlantic Street Park for the first time, while the Summer Concert Series will be held on the Green at the corner of Court and Main Streets. The Johnson Public Library will also be sponsoring a concert series on its lawn.
Attendees are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the outdoor entertainment, weather permitting. For more information, please go to Hackensack.org/events.

Creative Hackensack and the Northern NJ Community Foundation’s ArtsBergen Present Outdoor Public Art:
- July: Art on a Stick, inspired by artist Damien Mitchell, an interactive public art installation of images and messages mounted on wooden stakes, positioned along Main Street.
- August 6: CAT Walk Art Exhibition, noon-5:00 p.m., art, demos, live music at the “Artwalk” at Demarest Place and 130 Main Street.
- August: Rain Art, local artists create water-resistant paint designs that only appear when wet, to be discovered by passersby and brighten Main Street on rainy days.
