(SOMERVILLE, NJ) -- Girls on the Run of Central New Jersey (GOTRCNJ) kicked off its celebratory 5k races at Fair Haven Fields and Downtown Somerville with a record participation of 2,100 runners and over 1000 spectators on June 9, 2019. Girls on the Run is a social and emotional wellness program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.
Trained coaches lead small teams through an evidence-based curriculum which includes dynamic discussions in confidence, competence and caring. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop critical life skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
“It was vital for 1st Constitution as a community bank to take an active leadership role in the communities we serve, and Girls on the Run of Central NJ presented that opportunity. Through employee volunteering and fundraising, we can assist GOTRCNJ to achieve their goal, that every girl regardless of financial means can participate in this life-altering program,” says Andrea Pagiazitis, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking for 1st Constitution.
Annually the GOTRCNJ program serves over 2,000 girls at nearly 100 sites in Camden, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Somerset counties.
“We are extremely grateful to 1st Constitution for their generous sponsorship, and for their collaboration in impacting the mutual counties we serve. With their support we can fund additional program scholarships to girls in low income areas,” says Donna York, Council Director.
Other community sponsors included: Waldele Family Foundation, Bob’s Discount Furniture, Henning Dermatology, Merrill, Mason, Griffin & Pierson, Janjua Facial Surgery, Northfield Bank, Dental Care of Bridgewater, Junior League of Monmouth County, Wegmans and United Rent All.
