George C. Berry Joins The Roxey Ballet As A Company Dancer

originally published: 04/01/2017

George C. Berry Joins The Roxey Ballet As A Company Dancer(LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Roxey Ballet has announced that artist George C. Berry will be joining the ballet as a company dancer.

"It is with great pleasure to announce that George will dance with Roxey Ballet," says Mark Roxey, artistic director of the acclaimed company. "He is a unique dancer filled with great spirit. I look forward to seeing what he will share with our audiences."

George Berry began his dance training at Atlanta Ballet. This past August, he graduated from the University of Alabama under the direction of Cornelius Carter. While at the University of Alabama, George starred as Don Quixote in "Don Quixote", Lucien in "Paquita", Hilarion in "Giselle", and the Knight in Rita Snyder’s "El Dorado".

Berry will dance in each of Roxey Ballet's main stage events this season: "Cinderella", "Carmina Burana", and "We vs. C: Stories of Breast Cancer Survivors".

"I am most excited about "Carmina Burana" because I love the music, and the thrill of the live orchestra always brings something special to the performance", says Berry. "I look forward to the first rehearsal with the choir. We will only perform that show once, and it should be a fantastic night at Princeton." he says.

"Carmina Burana" is a collaboration between Roxey Ballet, Princeton Pro Musica, and Princeton Girlchoir. It will take place on May 21 at Richardson Auditorium. Carl Orff originally conceived the piece in 1935 as a “scenic cantata,” with music and dance together. As Orff originally intended, this spectacular collaboration will feature brand new choreography along with pianos, percussion, voices, and lights.

"I'm also excited for the challenge of Cinderella, and the vulnerability of We vs. C", he says. "The last production, We vs. C, will definitely be one of the more emotionally-driven works I have performed in and I'm excited to be a part of something that makes an impact. I am looking forward to meeting more of the survivors in the coming month and hear their stories of strength."

George C. Berry will be joined by returning Roxey Ballet Company dancers Xiaoxiao Cao, Diana Figueroa, Chanmee Jeong, Chihwan Kim, Riiko Kitayama, Gabriella Proffitt, and Tara Seymour.
