(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- Center Players has teamed up with the well-known comedy troupe, Improv Jam, to present weekly performances at Center Playhouse throughout the summer. Improv Jam hosts audience participation comedy in the style of the CW’s “WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY” featuring performers who have worked with cast members from the hit TV show. Beginning on July 13th, the troupe will present two shows every Thursday evening this summer at 8:00pm and 9:00pm (no show Aug. 3rd).
Each show will be 45 minutes long with audience participation. Admission will be $10 cash at the door; children under 12 are $5. Material will be suited to the audience in attendance.
“Thanks to multiple podcasts, television shows and movies, improv comedy has become more popular than ever, “ noted Improv Jam founder Mike O’Keeffe. “We have proudly been at the forefront of this revolution for decades, and are now thrilled to be collaborating with Center Players to take it to the next level.”
For nearly 25 years, O’Keeffe and Improv Jam have been leading the underground movement to cultivate New Jersey comedy for the masses, creating a unique performance environment that includes every aspect of comedy, including sketch, improvisation and stand-up.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Improv Jam, which will not only bring top comedy performers to our theater, but will expose Center Players to new audiences,” said Center Players President Sheldon Fallon.
Improv Jam alums include Nathan Fillion (star of ABC's "Castle" and “Cars 3”), LouTaylor Pucci ( star of “Evil Dead”, “The Story of Luke” and “Spring” ), and Lorene Scafaria (writer, "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist”). Mike O’Keeffe has been performing and teaching improv comedy professionally for over 25 years and has been a public school teacher for 20 years. He has done regional improv touring shows with former troupe-mate Wayne Brady, and has traveled across the country performing corporate comedy and team-building. He also works with many schools to help eradicate bullying, and to help students become better leaders. Recently, he presented a TED Talk on the concept of “Play” called “Using Improv to Become a Better Human.”
