Sense & Sensibility is one of Jane Austen’s most popular novels. First published in 1811, it was anonymously written “By A Lady” in order to conceal her identity. The characters of her tale live in a world where choices are especially limited for women. The story revolves around the lives of the two Dashwood sisters, Elinor who is level headed and full of sense and the hopelessly romantic Marianne. After the untimely and unexpected death of their father, both sisters and their mother are forced to leave their comfortable lives, while their half brother and his wife inherit the family estate. The only hope for these two sisters is a profitable marriage. This play will take you through the journey of the young women to their new home with their widowed mother, a meager cottage on the property of a distant relative, where they experience love, romance, and heartbreak.
Of The Aquila Theatre Company’s production, Anchorage Daily News said, “…the Aquila Company’s acting is among the best…” The Lincoln Journal Star of Lincoln, NE also said, “There is little doubt that The Aquila Theatre Company is one of the most inventive and daring theater companies in the country.” It will be an unforgettable performance of an extremely well-known and studied novel.
