(SUMMIT, NJ) -- This summer, Movement Invention Project® (MIP®), a progressive dance education program of New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE), celebrates its eighth season with a three-week summer intensive in the heart of New York City.
Since 2009, MIP® has provided advanced ballet and contemporary dancers ages 18-23 with an innovative exploration of the creative process and improvisational skills. Under the leadership of MIP® Concept and Artistic Director Alexandra Wells and Nancy Turano, Artistic Director of NJDTE, a master faculty of collaborative dance artists guides participants through a rigorous curriculum of ballet technique, improvisational workshops, and in-depth explorations of the creative process.
As Wells explains, “[b]eyond strong technical skills, intelligence, versatility and musicality, a dancer must be curious, open and prepared to make choices at any moment. Our brilliant, supportive faculty offers the tools and skills necessary for understanding the improvisational languages that are relevant in today’s dance environment.”
MIP® 2016 will be held at Baryshnikov Arts Center and New York Live Arts from June 29-July 15, 2016. Collaborators include Sidra Bell, Artistic Director of Sidra Bell Dance New York and MIP® Founding Collaborator; Shannon Gillen, Artistic Director of VIM VIGOR; Batsheva Dance Company’s Shamel Pitts, who will teach GAGA & Exploration; MIP® Founding Collaborator Troy Ogilvie; and Elia Mrak, who will lead classes in Flying Low Technique. This year’s audition will be held at DANY Studios on February 20th, 2016. Pre-registration is required by emailing mip@njdte.org.
