(NEWARK, NJ) -- The Russian National Ballet Theatre performs Cinderella at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark on Thursday, March 10 at 8:00pm. A company of 50 superb dancers performs one of the most enchanting tales of everlasting love, featuring lush scenery, colorful costumes, a sprightly score by Prokofiev, and promising an entertaining performance for families and dance enthusiasts alike. Tickets start at $29.
A rags-to-riches story about wishes that do come true, Cinderella is directed by former Bolshoi ballerina Elena Radchenko in the grand tradition of Russian dance. This timeless ballet is sure to dazzle audiences of all ages with its magic, beauty and romance. The Russian National Ballet Theatre brings this legendary fairytale to life, featuring an joyful score by the famed Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. The Washington Post raves that the Company is a "cut above many of its rivals."
Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in the dance from around the world. Today, the Russian National Ballet Theatre is its own institution, with over 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception. In addition to their extensive tour history, beginning in January 2017 the company will embark upon a 4-month coast-to-coast tour of the United States.
Elena Radchenko, an acclaimed Bolshoi principal dancer in her own right, is the founder and artistic director of the Russian National Ballet Theatre. She has focused the Company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works of Petipa: Don Quixote, La Bayadere, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Raymonda, Paquita, Coppelia and La Sylphide, as well as productions of, among others, The Nutcracker, Sylvia, and La Fille Mal Gardee.
NJPAC is located at One Center Street in Newark, NJ.
