(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Folk Rocker Steve Forbert comes to Tim McLoone’s Supper Club on Thursday, July 16 at 8pm. Christian Lopez will open the night. Tickets range from $20-$35. Forbert had his first major hit in 1979 at 25 and his artful mixture of introspective pop, rock, folk, country and soul in albums like Alive On Arrival and Jackrabbit Slim (Romeo’s Tune) has served him well. He’s still writing acclaimed songs and has released 14 albums over his 37 year career including a Grammy-nominated tribute to another Mississippi legend, Jimmie Rodgers.
For this Eastern US July tour, Steve will be appearing as part of a trio for ten special shows. With the intent of preserving the spontaneity of his solo shows, Forbert is keeping the accompaniment sparse and acoustic. Joining him will be percussionist Eddie O. Phillips, a longtime member of the Jackson, TN blues music community and lead guitarist Mark Stuart, best known for for his clean, clear stylings on several albums recorded with his wife, Stacey Earle.
Material for these shows will span Forbert's 37 years as a recording artist, including songs from his acclaimed first two albums, songs from the 1988 and 1992 discs made for the Geffen label, songs from a 2003 Grammy nominated tribute to Jimmie Rodgers, and songs from his forthcoming 15th studio album entitled Compromised.
Christian Lopez and his band are pioneering their own brand of Alt. Folk Country Rock. Like a young Whitman, Lopez translates the iconic America before him into rousing romps and searing serenades employing crisp and thoughtful imagery and storytelling. Lopez is turning traditional songwriting on its head. Lopez takes listeners on a heartfelt rampage through emotion, energy and excitement caring less about the hook then hooking them in with the range and passion in his voice.
