(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Asbury Park's music scene will join forces with its arts community on Saturday, June 13 from 1pm to 7pm when "Asbury Underground" marks its return. Over 50 musicians will perform at 28 venues, predominantly art galleries, encompassing the entire downtown business district. The event is free to the public.
The "Asbury Underground" will be kicking off at three different locations downtown beginning at 1PM. This, the fifth "Asbury Underground Downtown Art and Music Crawl" will wind its way through 28 downtown art galleries, coffee houses, vapor bars, clothing stores and various other locations before ending the evening at "The Saint" 601 Main Street, where there will be an after-party starting at 7pm, featuring performances by Dentist, Gay Guy/Straight Guy, Dark City Strings and other special guests.
Rather than a "guided tour" however, this no-frills event allows attendees to explore the downtown with maps of participating venues, plus "crawlers" can now download the new Asbury Underground APP for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
"The new Asbury Underground App will feature the event schedule, map, music by the participating performers, and also will be used to promote specials being offered by the local businesses on the day of the event, and year round." says Rick Barry, musician, app creator and administrator.
Confirmed musicians for the day are Amanda Duncan, Anthony Walker, Arlan Feiles, Art Servilla, Barbecue Bob, Cacha Bacha, Chris Brown, Chris Krebs & Dawn Allen, Colton Kayser, Dan Matlack, Dani Mari, Dark City Strings, Daughter Vision, Deal Casino, Delta Wave, Dentist, Doug Berry, Doctor Danger , Doug Zambon, Dub Proof, Dustin Sebes & Brian DeMello, Eastbourne, Emily Grove, Frank Lombardi, Gay Guy/Straight Guy, Geena & Dragster, Joe Harvard, Kevin John Allen, Jon Francis, Kacie Baker, Keith Monacchio, Ken Shane, Khadijah Mohammed, Mike Askin, New Line Drive, Pat Guadagno, Paul Rosevear, Quincy Mumford, Rick Barry, Sally Boyd, Sandy Mack, Steve Conte NYC, Steve Forbert, Stringbean and The Boardwalk Social Club, Sunday Blues, Taylor Allen, The Borneman's, The Lakehouse Music Academy Pros, The May Darlings, Tony Tedesco, and Val Emmich.
Along with the 50 plus musical attractions that day will be two murals being painted by local muralists Porkchop on Bond Street, and Brittany Leigh James on Cookman Avenue.
There will also be music and art displayed outside all day on a vacant lot next to Parlor Gallery at 715 Cookman Avenue, where local musician Joe Harvard will be curating "Up Joe's Alley" and local artist Mallory Massara will be curating the artwork in "The Garden of Good and Easel".
Also featured will be The Lakehouse Music Academy Pros, three full-fledged rock bands, comprised of dedicated students, ages 9 to 16 years of age, who are committed to excellence in music performance and representing what the Lakehouse has to offer.
"This will be our fifth Underground." Says local artist, Patrick Schiavino, founder and curator of Asbury Underground, and owner of art629 Gallery on Cookman Avenue. Each one has doubled in attendance. The last one done in cooperation with the Light of Day Festival, brought an estimated 4,000 people to the downtown on the third Saturday of this past January. It was a phenomenal success. We were all very pleased. Through the generosity and cooperation of all of the musicians who donated their time, and the business owners through their sponsorships, we were able to raise close to $20,000 for the Light of Day Foundation. That made me very proud and happy to be part of this wonderful community that we have here in Asbury Park."
"Asbury Park has a long tradition as being the premier destination for original music here in the State, but what most people are unaware of, is that it is quickly becoming one of the most concentrated areas for the fine arts as well, and on the 13th, we will be joining the two art forms together in what I hope will bring a broader awareness of just how fertile in all of the arts our City truly is," added Schiavino.
