(OCEANVILLE, NJ) -- The Noyes Museum of Art of Stockton University will host a Gallery Talk: MICA: THEN/NOW on Thursday, April 23 from 6:30-7:30pm. The co-curators, Barry Nemett and Mikel Frank, will give insights into the artists, their materials and concepts as well as the curatorial process as they lead visitors through the galleries of the of MICA: THEN/NOW exhibition. Barry Nemett is Chair of the Painting Department at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) in Baltimore, MD. Mikel Frank holds a BFA from MICA and an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute. Mikel worked for The Metropolitan Museum of Art for over 28 years.
The MICA: THEN/NOW exhibition (1/16/15 – 5/17/15) showcases the artwork of 40 alumni from one of the nation's oldest and top rated art schools, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). The works on exhibit have been created over the past 150 years. Visitors will see how each artist's unique vision has changed over time with examples of their work created early in their careers displayed next to their current images or objects.
Highlighting the exhibition are internationally exhibited, well-known contemporary artists Jeff Koons, Donald Baechler, and David Humphrey. Popular artist Jeff Koons is widely regarded as one of the most controversial and influential artists of the postwar era. Koons is known for his balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-like finishes. The Noyes Museum is pleased to present one of Koons’ early works from 1977 as well as a silkscreen from 2007. Donald Baechler is known for his abstract paintings referencing images of childhood and everyday objects. Pop surrealist David Humphrey’s work explores psychosocial content and narrative potentials.

The Noyes Museum of Art was founded in Oceanville, NJ, in 1983 to collect, preserve, and exhibit American fine and folk art, with an emphasis on New Jersey artists and folk art forms.
