Producers of The Last Five Years Join Screening With Q&A

originally published: 03/04/2015

Producers of The Last Five Years Join Screening With Q&A(RED BANK, NJ) -- The Last Five Years, the film based on the cult, off-Broadway production written by Jason Robert Brown, will screen at the Count Basie Theatre Wednesday, March 18 at 7pm. Tickets, priced at just $5, are on sale now through www.thebasie.org, phone charge at 732.842.9000 and the box office, located onsite at 99 Monmouth Street in Red Bank.

Following the film, the Count Basie Theatre Cinema Society proudly welcomes the film's producers, Lauren Versel and Janet Brenner, for an exclusive Q&A session with the audience.

Versel, whose credits include 2012's Golden Globe-nominated Armitage (Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon) and Brenner, producer of the upcoming film Ithaca starring Tom Hanks and marking the directorial debut of Meg Ryan, will take questions from the crowd on everything from filmmaking, turning a beloved stage production into a product for the silver screen, and more.

The Last Five Years is a musical chronicling a love affair and marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein (portrayed by Jeremy Jordan) is a young, talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt (portrayed by Anna Kendrick), a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through song. All of Cathy's songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair, while Jamie's songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. They meet in the center when Jamie proposes.

The film is just the latest big-screen offering presented by the Count Basie Theatre's Cinema Society. Membership to the Society costs just $50 per year, and entitles holders to entry for two (2) to all Count Basie Theatre film presentations, plus a free regular popcorn at each screening. Memberships can be purchased online at thebasie.org, or via the theatre box office.
