Theater To Go believes that the opportunity to play is fundamental to a happy life. But with today's hectic lifestyle, we often don't take time to explore our playful side. While many people stop playing at age 12 or so, actors are able to play all their lives. The company's mission is to have audiences join them in their playground! Theater To Go audiences don't just sit back and watch -- the company allows the "fourth wall" to be broken and so the audience can interact and participate with the actors. No one is forced to take on a part, but through our coming into the audience and relating to our guests in character, as well as through the games and activities which are part of the shows, we make the audience feel comfortable, relaxed and engaged.
Audience participation has a rich and significant history in the theater, dating back to Commedia de Arte and before. Theater To Go draws upon those earlier theatrical forms to provide an opportunity for our audiences to enjoy the theatrical process not only as spectators but as participants.
Theater To Go is also proud to be part of the Kelsey Theatre family, where they produced The 39 Steps last season. In February, the company will return to Kelsey with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Theater To Go produced the highly acclaimed historical drama Roebling the Story of the Brooklyn Bridge, by Hamilton NJ native Mark Voli. This show played for a limited engagement to enthusiastic audiences at the New jersey State Museum in 2014.
