For the nominal price of $58, patrons receive a copy of the published The Whipping Man acting edition script, a study guide, their theatre ticket, and the opportunity to have a member of the Playhouse staff speak at their book club. "This is a phenomenal program – both our audiences and our staff members who go to the book club meetings truly enjoy it," said George Street Playhouse Artistic Director David Saint, who has visited a number of book clubs. "I went to my first book club meeting eight years ago not knowing what to expect. What I found was a group of people passionate about reading, who in turn were fascinated by the difference between reading the words on the page and seeing them acted out on stage. I am so pleased to be able to offer this program this season with The Whipping Man."

About the production:
The Whipping Man
By Matthew Lopez
Since opening off-Broadway to critical acclaim and winning the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play, The Whipping Man has become one of the most-produced plays in the country.
Richmond, April, 1865. In this powerful and evocative historical play, a wounded Jewish confederate soldier returns to his family home that now stands ruined and abandoned – except for two former slaves also raised in the Jewish faith. As the three men share an improvised Seder to mark Passover, they discover that, though they are no longer tied by ownership, they remain bound by faith, history and long-buried secrets.
About George Street Playhouse:

In addition to its mainstage season, GSP's Touring Theatre features four issue-oriented productions that are seen by more than 40,000 students annually.
