New York director Trey Compton helms Tick, tick... BOOM! for Skyline

originally published: 09/30/2014
(BERGEN COUNTY, NJ) -- NYC Director Trey Compton will helm Skyline Theatre Company's production of tick, tick...BOOM!, by Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathon Larson, which will run for six performances, November 7th-9th and 14th-16th, 2014, at the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation in the Fair Lawn Community Center in Fair Lawn.

Tick, tick... BOOM! is an autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning composer of RENT. It is the story of an aspiring composer who questions his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. First performed as a solo rock monologue by Larson in 1990, it was later revamped by playwright David Auburn as a three-actor piece and premiered off-Broadway in 2001.

Mr. Compton, who most recently directed a production of I Love a Piano at The Theater Barn in the Berkshires, approaches this piece about turning 30 just after his own 30th birthday. He is excited to put his own spin on this musical. "Tick is a show I have always wanted to direct," says Compton. "It spoke to me in my youth and has so much to say about being an artist in NY during the 80s."

Mr. Compton served as the assistant director to Drama Desk nominee Igor Goldin on the Off-Broadway production of Yank!, and on White's Lies, starring Betty Buckley. His directing work also includes City of Angels and the New York premiere of Christopher Durang's Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge; Parade at The University of Pennsylvania; Drood at Georgetown University; A Funny Thing...Forum; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; I Love You You're Perfect Now Change; Speed-The-Plow; Romance/Romance; Company; and John and Jen. His next project is working on the world-premiere engagement of the musical adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice at La Mirada Theatre.

Skyline Theatre Company is proud to bring live, professional theatre to Bergen County. Tick, tick...BOOM! will run November 7th-9th and 14th-16th at the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation in the Fair Lawn Community Center in Fair Lawn. Tickets are $29 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $20 for students. For ticket reservations or for more information about Skyline, visit www.skylinetheatrecompany.org or call 800-474-1299.
