New Jersey Stage Releases Giant September Issue

originally published: 09/23/2014
(BELMAR, NJ) -- New Jersey Stage magazine is creating a buzz around the Garden State arts scene and the latest issue should only help fuel the fire. The publication's September 2014 issue contains 136 pages of art, music, film, theatre, comedy, dance, and poetry coverage. An interactive magazine, the latest issue includes more than 45 videos and more than a half dozen mp3s to provide the story behind the story. The issue is available for free at www.NJArtsMag.com

"Every week, more and more people are taking a look at New Jersey Stage and seeing how the magazine benefits from the use of audio and video," explained Gary Wien, publisher. "It's a unique publication. When you visit the website, you're actually loading an app that lets you read the issue clearly whether you're on a computer, tablet, or even a smart phone. We're beginning to have more readers on mobile devices than on computers. People keep telling us they are amazed they can read it on their phone, but, unlike many digital magazines, ours was actually designed for mobile. We believe this is the future of publishing."

The cover story is a feature on comedian Vic Dibitetto whose vignettes on YouTube have been seen by over 20 million viewers. Vic talks to New Jersey Stage about stand-up, his videos, and getting his big break after 30 years — a role in the upcoming sequel to Mall Cop.

The September issue also contains features on actor Dan Lauria, best known for his role as the father in "The Wonder Years" hit TV show. Lauria is starring in "Dinner With The Boys," a play he wrote many years ago that is having its world premiere at New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch. Additional theatre coverage includes features on South Camden Theatre Company; a look at "Within the Law" by East Lynne Theater Company; an interview with Laura Ekstrand, Artistic Director of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre; and a comprehensive season preview.

Music is well represented with features on Anthony D'Amato from Blairstown, NJ, who talks about his major label debut "The Shipwreck from the Shore" on New West Records; Brent Bourgeois (who grew up in Morristown and had hits in the 1980s with his former band Bourgeois Tagg) on his first new album in 25 years; and Diego Allessandro, who has a unique show coming up at The Saint in Asbury Park. In addition, the issue contains music videos by Sofia Nicole, Son of Dov, and Cherry Suede.

In addition to film reviews of The Guest and A Public Ransom, the September issue includes the full-length feature of A Public Ransom for viewing! Bob Steeler's art is featured, as is poetry by J Sales, and a look at the 2014 Dodge Poetry Festival.

"The September issue also begins an increased focus on dance for us," said Wien. "We have previews of several upcoming shows and a feature on 10 Hairy Legs, the male company led by Randy James. Videos of several dance performances inside the issue show why dance is a perfect fit for the magazine."
