CHURCHES MAKING MOVIES ANNOUNCES 2014 OFFICIAL SELECTIONS

(ISELIN, NJ) -- The Churches Making Movies Christian Film Festival (CMM) announced today the first films selected for its 2014 festival to be held October 10-14 in Iselin, New Jersey. The festival is the only film festival in the world devoted to showcasing church-produced feature films.

For the 2014 CMM festival, so far 22 films have been selected inclusive of seven church-produced feature films, six documentaries, seven shorts and two special presentation films.

NARRATIVE FEATURE COMPETITION:


ANOTHER CHANCE/ U.S.A.; Director, Paulo Simoes; church affiliation, Living Word Family Church, Raleigh, North Carolina (Regional Premiere) — Peter Martin, a sleazy small town politician, has his world turned upside down when two teenagers struggling to overcome their own mistakes bring him face to face with his sordid past.

REDEMPTION OF THE COMMONS/U.S.A.; Director, Pastor KT Terry; church affiliation, Downtown Community Fellowship, Seneca, South Carolina (Regional Premiere) —Through this drama's inspiring ending of reconciled relationships and realized dreams, we are reminded that no life is "common" - and that everyone has a God-given purpose.

MR. WHAT/USA; Director, Shuan Maki; church affiliation, First Baptist Church of Tecumsah, Michican (World Premiere)- Mattiesko Wuopio, though innocent , has spent twenty-two years in prison. Upon apprehension of the real criminal, Mattiesko seeks redemption through his father, a stray dog, and an endearing little boy.

SAVIOR/U.K. Director, Jordan Snowzell; Church Affiliation: Freedom Church, Hereford, England — Savior is a contemporary interpretation of the Christmas story set in modern England.

WHATEVER THE COST/U.S.A. Church Affiliation: Four Square Gospel Center, Winston, Oregon; Director: Jerry Smart (World Premiere) — Imagine a world where coming to church on Sunday was against the law; where owning a Bible could get you arrested; where sharing the gospel with someone who does not know Jesus could get you killed. "Whatever the Cost" is a depiction of such a time.

LOVE UNCUT/U.K. Church affiliation: His Praise and Glory Ministries; Director: Bola Akande- Love Uncut explores infidelity in marriage and the power that forgives all sin.

CRITICAL CHOICE/USA. Church Affiliation: NACADRAM (North American Conference of Evangelical Drama Ministers); Director: Mike Bamiloye-A wife bids her husband a temporary goodbye and thinks she has a blueprint of their future plans engraved on her palms. Little does she know that she would have to make a Critical Choice that would change their lives forever.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE COMPETITION:


SING OVER ME (2014) Director: Jacob Kindberg;- An intimate portrait of Dennis Jernigan, the man behind some of the biggest Christian songs of all-time, and his lifelong struggle with homosexuality, and the redemption he found in Jesus Christ.

IRREPLACEABLE (2014)Director: Tim Sisarich; Focus on the Family;
Irreplaceable seeks to ask the important question, "What is family?" and "Does 'family' still matter in today's society?

HERE WE ARE TO WORSHIP (2013) Producer: MInister Valerie Allen- An inspiring message featuring 4 spectacular women who experience dramatic trials and tribulations of domestic violence.

AFRICAN CHRISTIANITY RISING: Stories from Zimbabwe (2013); Director: James Ault- Christianity's explosive growth in Africa is part of a startling reversal in world history. With guidance from leading scholars in the field, this film documents the vitality and changing nature of Christianity in Africa.

BEYOND FORGIVING; (2013) Director: Dr. Imad Karam, Initiatives of Change-UK- In this moving documentary, Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphalele form an unlikely pair: a black atheist man and a white Christian woman who bring healing and reconciliation to their country.

VIRGIN TALES; Director: Mirjam von Arx- For two years, the filmmakers follow the Wilson family, founders of the Purity Ball, to show how a young generation is groomed to embody an Evangelically-grounded Utopia.


SHORT FILM COMPETITION


ONCE WE WERE SLAVES (2014);​Church Affiliation: Vertical Church Films; Director: Dallas Jenkins- Once We Were Slaves captures the uncommon grace and redemption of the crucifixion from a perspective that's never before been captured on film.

THE MARY CONTEST (2014);Writer/Director: Teresa McGee - Young Mary Kelly dreams of becoming a nun, like her beloved teacher, Sr. Adelia, but despite her best efforts, she can't seem to tame her bad temper.

STORING TREASURES (2014);Desales University Freshman Project, Director: Jerry Smart- A billionaire is about to lose his life and he must redeem himself before he is taken by the Angel of Death.

5 WORDS FILM (2014); The Art Institute of Portland (student film);Director: Dennis Mulyar -Based on actual events, "5 Words" is a short film set in the former Soviet Union in the year of 1958. It is a short episode from the life of a young woman who is persecuted for her Christian faith by the godless Communistic movement.

THE WALK (2013); Director: Paul Snider- A man wakes up in the middle of a vast wasteland with no memory of how he got there. Through his journey to find help, items for survival begin to appear with haunting coincidence, leading to a shocking discovery.

FAITH (2014); Grand Canyon University (student film); Directors: Cody J. Carlson and Andrew Peterson - Faith follows the story of the young war veteran Jonathan Morrison, who upon returning from war is struggling believing in not only his Faith, but also in God.

BUTTERFLIES (2014) Director: Cayman Grant- Inspired by true events, Butterflies is a teenage story about a cancer survivor who lives life to the fullest with a new friend who is dying of Leukemia.


SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS


THE GOOD BOOK – Writers/Directors; Fred and Sharon Wilharm- The Good Book is the first evangelical silent feature to be released since sound was added to movies.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BREAKFAST CLUB – Director: Justin Barber; Writer: Amanda Barber - A newly hired waitress befriends three elderly customers and learns to cherish the elderly.
