Colie Brice and The New Age Blues Experience Return To The Saint

originally published: 04/15/2014
(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience will make their first appearance in nearly a year when the band returns to The Saint in Asbury Park on April 22, 2014. Brice was a long-time fixture in the Jersey Shore music scene before moving to Eastport, Maine. Starting out in a band called Gemini, Brice would go on to record 27 independently produced albums to go along with the three he recorded with his former band, Phantom's Opera.

After experiencing the Grateful Dead live, Colie set upon pursuing a creative direction he terms the "Luna Muse" principle and started creating a style of music he calls New Age Blues. In 1997 Colie's solo debut New Age Blues was accepted in the 40th Annual Grammy Nomination Entry List in several categories including Top Instrumental for "17G (Tribute to Jerry)"

The New Age Blues Experience features Alan Gowa on guitar, Jay Walker on bass, Joe Savio on drums, and Kurt Thum on keys. From 2007-2012, the band was a regular guest at The Saint and evolved from a loose avant-garde improvisation experiment into a well-honed ensemble. The band and it's members were nominated for over two dozen Asbury Park Music Awards and won Top Avant-Garde and Top Bass Player in 2008. They were also a featured act in the 2011 annual Asbury Park Jazz Festival.

In 2012 the band recorded a live album at the Saint entitled Exile on Maine Street. Other albums include:

  • 2011 Colie Brice Live At the Saint (AERIA Records)
  • 2011 Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience Another Night in Paradise (AERIA Records)
  • 2011 Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience Nova (AERIA Records)
  • 2010 Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience - Live in Asbury Park (AERIA Records)

Colie has worked at PolyGram, Universal Music Group, Classic Records, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, AERIA Records, Asbury Media, and currently does independent consulting for a major label client.
